The mastermind of the murder of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan and the attempted murder of another publisher Ahmedur Rashid Tutul have been detained, claimed the police.
According to a short message service (SMS) released by Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Sunday morning, the law enforcers detained Abdus Sabur alias Raju alias Samad alias Shujon from Tongi Railway Station area on Saturday night.
DMP Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman confirmed the arrest.
He said, “Raju is also the mastermind of the attack on Avijit’s publisher Ahmed Rashid Tutul.”
Details regarding the matter will be disclosed in a press briefing to be held at DMP Media Centre later in the day, the DC added.
On August 23, DB police arrested a suspected leader of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) in connection to the murder.
During primary interrogation, detained Ansarullah leader Moinul Hasan Shamim told the law enforcers that sacked army official Syed Ziaul Haque masterminded Dipan’s murder because his publishing house had brought out a book by slain secular writer-blogger Avijit Roy.
Dipan, whose publishing house published a book of slain writer-blogger Avijit Roy, was hacked to death in Dhaka’s Aziz Supermarket on October 31, 2015.
Jagriti Prokashoni owner Dipan was stabbed dead inside his office in Dhaka’s Aziz Super Market on October 31 last year. The same day, Tutul of Shuddhoswar was knifed in what appeared to be synchronized attacks on publishers of slain secularist writer-blogger Avijit Roy.
