Canada is providing CAD 250,000, equivalent to Tk 15,139,582.01, through the Canadian Humanitarian Assistance Fund (CHAF) in support of CARE Canada’s humanitarian response for Bangladesh’s flood victims, reports the UNB.
The six-month project from August 15, 2016 to February 15, 2017 will provide non-food item kits and unconditional cash transfers for up to 10,000 flood-affected people in Kurrigram district.
The overall CHAF budget for this project in Bangladesh is CAD 333,333, said Canadian High Commission in Dhaka.
Besides, Canada is providing CAD 30,000 through the Emergency Disaster Assistance Fund (EDAF) in support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies humanitarian response to the flood floods.
The recent flood in the country is caused by heavy rainfall in the northern and north-east part of Bangladesh as well as in the Indian States of Assam and Meghalaya.
The High Commission hoped that Canada’s support will allow people to get back on their feet as soon as possible.
