Hindu devotees bade an emotional farewell to the Goddess Durga and her pantheon as the five-day celebrations came to an end yesterday.
Bijaya Dashami marks the end of Durga Puja, the biggest Hindu festival in the region, through the immersion of idols in the river and other water bodies.
After the final moments of fanfare and festivity, Hindus all over the country took out colourful processions to commemorate the return of the Goddess and her four children to Kailash, her husband’s abode. Hundreds of devotees, young and old, men and women, joined hands to lower the idols into rivers amid the beating of drums, prayers and chanting of hymns.
