Japan will provide 490 million Japanese yen or approximately Tk 31.39 crore to Bangladesh as grant for the ‘Third Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP-3), reports UNB.
An ‘Exchange of Note’ and ‘Grant Agreement’ in this regard were signed on Tuesday at the Economic Relations Division (ERD).
ERD Senior Secretary Mohammad Mejbahuddin signed both the ‘Exchange of Note’ and ‘Grant Agreement’ on behalf of Bangladesh while Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Masato Watanabe inked the ‘Exchange of Note’, and JICA Bangladesh Office Chief Representative Mikio Hataeda signed the ‘Grant Agreement’ on behalf of the Japanese side.
The ‘Third Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP-3) is under implementation from 2011 by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education as it will complete 2017.
Japan has contributed to this program in the years 2011, 2012, and 2013 at the rate of 500 million each, totalling 1,500 Japanese yen. This is the fourth tranche of Japan’s contribution to this program.
Under this program, the grant will be utilized in the education sector. The main objective of this program is to improve the quality of the classroom teaching of primary school teachers through providing modern training in science and mathematics.
Supporting equipment relating to teaching of science and mathematics will also be provided under this program to improve the quality of education.
