Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday alleged that the previous BNP government had closed down many important railway routes as prescribed by the World Bank, reports UNB.

“BNP during its tenure had an agreement with the World Bank to close down many important rail routes of the country and neglected the popular means of communication in the country,” she said after inaugurating the railway overpass in city’s Banani to traffic today.
The 804-metre overpass at the Banani rail crossing was constructed by Bangladesh Army.
Addressing a function at the Banani Army Stadium, Hasina mentioned that after assuming office in 2009, the present Awami League-led government decided to split the Railways Ministry from the Communications Ministry to put special emphasis on developing the neglected sector of the country.
“We made a separate ministry for the railway and focused our attention to develop this cheaper, easy communication route of the country,” she said.
The Prime Minister said a new horizon of congestion-free road communication in capital Dhaka has been opened with the inauguration of Banani overpass.
