Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal is likely to miss the entire Asia Cup as he was granted paternal leave by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

BCB sources said, Tamim requested BCB to grant him leave as he and his wife Ayesha Siddiqa are expecting baby later this month.

Tamim asked for leave from February 24, the day the Asia Cup will kick off with a match between India and Bangladesh.

However, sources said that Tamim was ready to play last one or two match and was set to come back after the birth of his baby. But coach Chandika Hathuresinghe did not agree due to the uncertainty of his availability.

Another left-hand opener Imrul kayes is likely to replace Tamim in the Asia Cup.

Imrul is among four stand by players for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
