River vessel workers throughout the country went on an indefinite strike on Monday night to press home their four-point demand, reports the UNB.
The waterway workers under the banner of Water Transport Workers’ Movement Committee declared the strike at zero hour of Tuesday, said Shah Alam, president of Bangladesh Water Transport Workers’ Federation.
Their demand includes fixing minimum salary of the river transport workers at Tk10,000, giving them compensation for any harm in any accident, cracking down robbery on the river routes and increasing navigability of the rivers, Shah Alam added.
