Young Tigers win by 8 wickets with group champions

The young Tigers on Tuesday knocked out Namibia in the final match of Group A fixture of ICC U19 World Cup at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh skipper Mehedi Hasan Miraz decided to field first.

Bombardment from the young Bangladeshi spinners destroyed the Namibian batting lineup, restricting them to just 65 runs from 32.5 overs.

Medium pacer Mohammad Saifuddin struck in the fourth over to send back opener Loftie-Eaton. Later in the sixth over, Namibian skipper Zane Green was run out without contributing anything to the score board.

Later, spinners took control of the match with Saleh Ahmed Shawon, skipper Miraz, who is now the highest wicket taker at U19 level, and Ariful Islam taking two wickets each, while Saeed Sarkar bagged one wicket.

Only two Namibian batsmen – Niko Davin and Lohan Louwrens – could post double digit runs to the scoreboard.

Beginning of the Bangladesh batting shaky after both the openers were sent to the pavilion in just 13 runs. But a brilliant unbeaten 53-run between Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Joyraz Sheik brought Bangladesh victory in 16 overs.

Saleh Ahmed Shawon was named player of the match for his brilliant bowling.

Following the victory, Bangladesh became the group champions.
