The 36th death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam will be observed today (Monday), the 12th Bhadra in Bangla calendar, in a befitting manner, reports BSS.
The poet of rebel and love, Nazrul Islam died in Dhaka on August 29, 1976. He was buried with state honour on the premises of Dhaka University central mosque.
Various socio-cultural organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes marking the death anniversary of the national poet.
Bangladesh Beter, Bangladesh Television (BTV) and private TV channels will air special programmes tomorrow highlighting life and works of the national poet. The day’s programme will begin through placing of wreaths at the poet’s mazar in the morning. Other programmes include Qurankhawani, offering fateha, discussion meetings and cultural functions.

Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was born at Churulia in Bardhaman of West Bengal on 11 Joistha in Bengali year 1306 (May 24, 1899). He was brought to Dhaka from Kolkata in 1972.
The poet of equality and humanity, Nazrul used to raise his voice to the highest pitch in favour of humanity defying many adversities of his time.
