In an accident that occurred on the Bangabandhu Bridge, early on Saturday, at least seven people were killed and 15 others were injured.
The accident was triggered by fog obscured view, on the eastern side of Bangabandhu Bridge in Bhuapur upazila of Tangail district.
Seventeen people were injured in the accidents, of whom one died on way to hospital while another died at Sirajganj General Hospital.
Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Dilu’s son Sharif Rana is one of the victims. The identities of the other victims are yet to be known.
Traffic was disrupted after the accident as the damaged vehicles were yet to be removed from the bridge.
The accident occurred when several buses crashed into each other.
In the first incident, the bus of Sarkar Paribahan rammed into the rear of a cattle-laden truck, leaving two people killed on the spot and several others injured.
In another incident, two other unidentified people were killed when two trucks hit each other and another person was killed on the spot as a bus rammed into an ambulance, said the OC.
The accidents occurred due to opaque visibility caused by dense fog, he added.However, police and firefighting units rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation.
